The Most Popular Movie Homes

The most popular movie homes, according to Google and where to find them.

A new study reveals the most Googled homes from popular movies and where they reside, with the iconic McCallister family home in Home Alone being the most searched-for movie home.

The research conducted recently analysed the monthly worldwide search volume for each of the highest-ranking movies on IMDb and the homes that feature in them to establish which movie residence is the most sought-after.

Home Alone

The most popular movie home is from none other than the McCallister residence in the 1990 classic Home Alone. The film follows a young Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) on his adventures and efforts to scare away two burglars from attempting to steal from all the homes on the street.

Searches for ‘home alone house’ average at 70,000 searches per month worldwide, solidifying the home’s popularity; the house is located at 671 Lincoln Avenue, Winnetka, Illinois. Although the inside of the home is not open to visitors, many fans of the film often visit the outside for photos, especially at Christmas time.

Twilight

Searches for ‘twilight house’ total 8,400 per month and searches for ‘Cullen house twilight’ receive 3,800 per month on average due to its modern architecture and unique aesthetics, meaning the combined average number of searches per month for the house in Twilight is 12,200.

The Cullen family house is situated at 3333 NW Quimby St, Portland, Oregon. Officially named “Hoke House”, Nike footwear director John Hoke completed the home in 2007, and a year later, it was featured in the movie.

Hocus Pocus

1993’s Hocus Pocus has the third most popular movie home, with many filming locations in Salem, Massachusetts available to visit for many fans of the movie. Searches for ‘hocus pocus house’ average 12,000 searches per month.

One of the most iconic homes in the movie is Allison’s house, also known as “Ropes Mansion” (318 Essex Street, Salem), which is decorated with jack-‘o’-lanterns and candle-lit windows and is an open museum for both Salem locals and fans of the movie.

Father of the Bride

Located at 843 S. El Molino Avenue, California is the fourth most popular movie home. The home in 1991’s Father of the Bride, which stars Steve Martin and Kimberly Williams, is fictionally located on 24 Maple Drive in the upmarket area of San Marino in California, where the Huttinger family resides. Searches for ‘father of the bride house’ average 5,600 searches per month worldwide; back in 2016, the house was sold for $1.9 million.

Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands has the fifth most Googled house, which belongs to none other than the Boggs family in 1990’s fantasy romance. A young Johnny Depp stars as a ‘thin, solemn man with long, sharp blades for fingers’ according to Tim Burton’s drawings of the character.

The home is located at 1774 Tinsmith Circle, Lutz, Florida, where the owners decided to sell the property and pay homage to the movie by transforming it into a movie tribute. Searches for ‘Edward Scissorhands House’ average 5,300 per month worldwide, proving just how popular the distinctive and quirky aesthetics of the house are and how keen fans are to visit.

A spokesperson commented on the findings: “Movies don’t just offer engaging storylines, but are an example of the era that they aired and can become staples in popular culture. However, it isn’t just the movie itself that can become wildly popular, it is also the sets and the interiors which can quickly become fan favourites. This study gives an interesting insight into the most popular movie homes that have stood the test of time in popularity and style.”
